Benefits of Fibre Optic Cable

In recent years fibre optic cabling has become widely available. It has a number of advantages over traditional copper wire making it particularly suited to certain installations. For example:

  • A much greater signal bandwidth can be transmitted along fibre optic cable.

  • It is immune to any kind of Electro-Magnetic Interference (EMI) and can therefor be distributed around a building without electrical separation worries.

  • As there are no electrical connections at either end of the link, ground loops are eradicated.

  • EMI immunity gives fibre optic cable a greater degree of security than copper alternatives - so they are suited to installations where data security would be a concern.

  • Signals can be transmitted without deterioration over greater distances than copper wire (approximately 3km)

  • Fibre Optic cabling does not always require trunking, simplifying and speeding up the installation process
